The scan address is deliberately short — dgtg.me plus a six-character code. Fewer characters means physically larger squares in the same space, and larger squares are what let a scratched tag still read in poor light. It's the least visible decision on the whole product and the one that most determines whether it works in two years.

What it doesn't do

Worth being straight about, because it should change what else you keep on the collar.

A scan needs a data connection. The tag points at a page rather than storing the details, which is exactly why it stays current — and also why it won't load in a dead zone. That's the trade. Keep your phone number readable without a scan too, which is why it's printed on the front of this tag rather than hidden behind the code.

It isn't a microchip. A chip can't fall off and works when a dog reaches a shelter with no collar at all. It also carries nothing but an ID number and needs a scanner the public doesn't have. These cover different failures — we wrote the honest comparison here. Microchip your dog regardless.

Do I need a paid plan for the tag to work?

No. The tag, the record it scans to and the scan notifications all work on the free plan. Premium adds multiple dogs and the AI assistant, but nothing the tag depends on.

What if I change my phone number?

Edit it in the app and the scan page updates immediately. The number printed on the front of the tag is fixed, so if that's the one that changed and it matters to you, order a replacement tag — but the scannable record is always current either way.
